Bluestone 2012-05-22T16:16:20+00:00

Bluestone is a type of sandstone known for its beautiful shades of blue and green, durability and natural non-skid quality. It is quarried in New York and Pennsylvania and most often used for making outdoor patios and stair treads.

Standard (cleft) Bluestone
Natural bluestone has “reeds” – the layered texture most people associate with bluestone. The color is greenish-grey with a hint of blue and the pieces can be somewhat different in thickness. Laying cleft bluestone takes special skill and time because each piece has to be leveled out individually to fit with the rest of the patio.

Premium (thermal) Bluestone
Premium bluestone has a very consistent thickness of 1.5”, it is bluish-gray in color and cut perfectly to size. This type of uniformity is achieved by cutting the stone precisely, rather than separating it by layers, and then running the stone through a furnace. Thermal bluestone can be quick and easy to install.
